BEAM SERVICE

A FORTNIGHT’S DELAY.

(Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, March 16

It is understood that the beam wireless service opening is likely to be delayed for a fortnight while engineering details and the tariff are finalised.

In the House of Commons, Sir W. Mltehell-Thomson, replying to Sir Harry Brittain, said that the beam stations for the Australian service, having stood a seven days’ test, would be taken over by the Post Office at an early date. Many detailed arrangements were necessary before they were open to the public. He could not give the approximate date of the opening. Ho understood that the company intended to develop the esystem to South Africa as soon as possible. —A. and N.Z.
