THE CEMENT INDUSTRY

LEADING AUTHORITY’S VIEWS. According to E. C. Eckel, a leading American authority on the Portland Cement Industry, the successful operation of a cement plant calls for:— Raw material conforming to established chemical and physical formulae; amplitude of raw materials available; suitable location of site in regard to, fuel supplies, transport, markets, and supply of labour. ' On the site acquired at Whangarei by the British Standard Portland Cement Limited, nature has provided unlimited quantities of an almost ideal “raw meal” mixture ready for cement making purposes with a minimum of preparation. It is competently estimated that this new enterprise has over 1,000,000 tons of coal to draw on from its own mine, which will yield coal suitable for its purposes at a cost not exceeding 20/ per ton delivered at the Works. These adjoin a safe, all-weather anchorage, workable at all times. With low transport charges and low cost of production definitely assured owing to these rare combinations of natural advantages, the new Company expects to be able ■to profitably produce and dispose of 72.000 tons in New Zealand annually 'of high grade Portland Cement. Prom careful and exhaustive expert enquiries made into the matter of New Zealand’s likely future demands for cement the promoters of the British Standard Portland Cement Ltd. are satisfied that the proposed output will be readily absorbed, and that a profitable business can be established, their faith in this being wholehearted, as illustrated by the fact that they are purchasing for cash 80,000 £1 shares out of 213,000, and are guaranteeing interest bn the remaining 133.000 offered to the public. A great deal of care, time and money have been expended by competent commercial men in preparing this project for flotation. For this reason alone, the prospectus (which can now be obtained from any sharebroker) merits -*speetful consideration. The interim Secretary’s address is, Box 542, Wellington.
