RAILWAY MISHAPS
ANOTHER INCIDENT AUGMENTS AUSTRALIAN SERIES. BRAKE VAN JUMPS RAILS. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A serious railway accident occurred near Brewarrina, on the Barwon River, 500 miles north-west from Sydney. The brake van of a goods train jumped the rails, and five men in the van were seriously, injured and sent to hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown.—A. and N.Z. CAUSE ASCERTAINED. ' ’ 1 TRACK UNDERMINED. (Received 11.15 a.m.) * SYDNEY, This Day. 1 /The derailment of the brake van near Brewarrina was caused by sagging of the line, owing to heavy rains during the previous day. j Those injured comprised a gang of railway workers who had been repairing the line. Three' of the injured [were admitted to hospital. The others proceeded to their homes after treatment.—A. and N.Z.
