The late Mr David Goldie, whose long life of service to the community of Auckland was brought to a close on Tuesday, has ■ given the citizens of j Auckland still further cause to honour j his memory by bequeathing to them ! a splendid area of native bush in the J Waitakerc ranges, and making a numj ber of handsome bequests to public institutions in the city. The section of native bush is to be ! held as a public reserve. It has an j area of 475 acres. It is known as j Goldie's Bush, and is situated about I 23 miles from the city and about four j miles : from the Waitakere railway station. The area is covered with j beautiful bush, which contains totara ; and kauri trees. j The following are additional bej quests made by Mr Goldie:—Blind 3ji- | stitute, £1000; Auckland Museum, ; £1000;- Karitane Home, £500; SalI vation Army, £500; St. Mary’s Home, j Otahuhu, £500; Y.W.C.A., £500; PlyI ing Angel Mission, £250; Y.M.C.A., £250; Knox Home for Incurables, j £250; Young Citizens’ League, £125; , Boy Scout organisation, £125. In adi dition there- is a bequest to the Alexi andra Street Methodist school of £5 j annually for library books.—Press I Assn.
