BOXING
MOTtBAT—BUBDT MATI3H. WELLINGTON, This Day, (Correspondence read at a meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council allowed keen rivalry existing between the Napier and Otago Associations to secure the privilege of staging ffie professional lightweight championship P match, Murray versus Purdy. -The Napier Association wrote that Murray had agreed to box there, and the members of that association were surprised at the news that the men had signed ' for a match in Wellington. >■ The Judicial Committee reported that neither Napier nor Otago had secured any contract with Murray. The Napier Association was entitled to apply to the Council for the lightweight championship match as soon as it had a contract for the match. ■ Eventually it was decided, on the motion of Dr. MeEvedy, that the contest Murray -and Purdy be held under-the Wellington Boxing Association, and that it be for the lightweight title. The motion was carried b/ three votes to two, Messrs Heenan and Simpson opposing. It was considered* that Murray deserved censure, and the secretary was 'instructed to write to him pointing out' that he must in future be, more frapjc in his dealings with associations than ihe had been with Napier.-~-Press .Assn.
