RISHWORTH SHIELD. HIKURANGI DEFEATS Y.M.C.A.MAIRTOWN. The Hikurangi and the Y.M.C.A.Mairtown Tennis Clubs met on Saturday afternoon in a series of games for the Rishworth 'Challenge Shield. The latter club, the holders of the shield, suffered defeat, Hikurangi securing 12 sets to six and 135 games to 116. The results of play were as follows, Hikurangi players being mentioned first: — Ladies’ Singles: Mrs. Arueil—Miss Titbits, 9—2; Mrs. McLean—Miss Eceles, 3—9; Mrs. O’Shea—Miss Allaway, B—9; Miss Jackson—Miss White, 9—7; Mrs. Kerr—Miss Culleii, 2—9; Miss Dunn—Miss Goodyear, 4—9. Men’s Singles: Merrington—Waymouth, 9 —2; Meyer—Clarke, O—8; O’Shea —Simmonds, 9—3; Rarity— Laurenson, 9—5; Beale—Riley, 9—B; Jackson —Reed, 9 —5.

Ladies’ Doubles: Mesdames Arneil and McLean—Misses Tibbits and Cullen, 9—7; Mrs. O’Shea and Miss Jackson—Misses Eceles and Allaway, 3—9; Mrs. Kerr and Miss Dunn—Mjssea White and Goodyear, 7—9. Men’s Doubles: Merrington and Meyer—Waymouth and Clarke, 9—5; O’Shea and Jackson—Laurenson and Simmonds, 9—6; Rarity and Beale— Riley and Reed, 9—4.

On Thursday and Saturday afternoons the gentlemen of the V i' T n Mairtown Club will entertain the lady members. They will provide afternoon lea and also present a couple of trophies as prizes for ladies only in a series of mixed doubles games which will be played.
