SINAPORE BASE
INDIA SO FAR EXEMPT. (Received 2.42 p.rn.) LONDON, February 22. In the House of Commons Mr .1. Scurr (Labour, Mile End) asked whether the Government of India had been asked to contribute towards the cost of the construction and maintenance of the naval base at Singapore, and, if not, whether it was proposd to ask for such a contribution.
Earl Winterton, Under-Secretary for India, replied to both parts of the question in the negative.—A. and N.Z.
