SELECTING THE SELECTORS. FEELING RUNS HIGH. (Received 2.3 p.m.) LONDON, February 21. The Australian Press Association learns on the highest authority that a good deal of intriguing is in progress behind the scones preparatory to the meeting on Wednesday for the election !)f the test match selection committee. For some time there has been a tug-of-war between representatives of the northern and southern counties, but Yorkshire is not now acting in concert with Lancashire. The former agreed to support the Marylebone view of things. j Marylebone will exercise a bloc of; six votes out of Ifi on Wednesday and expects to obtain sufficient support out of the 10 county representatives to carry its proposals, which will be the nomination of a selection committee consisting of Gilligan, Daniel and Perrin. This will be empowered to co-1 opt advisers, but it is understood that
jno professionals—not even Hobbs—will bo called on. Carr -will be coopted as captain, but will need reelection to the captaincy of each match. The Hon Leveson-Gower will probably be nominated in a purely secretarial capacity. Marylebone is ■ strongly opposed to Lancashire’s dcjsirc for the co-operation of Higson, Lancashire’s treasurer, as special representative of the northern counties, dej daring that Carr will sufficiently represent the north.
It is learned that attempts are being made to find places on the selection committee for Maelaren and Warner. The former will probably not bo considered, while Marylebonc opposes him on-the ground of his connection with the press.—A. and N.Z.
