COUNTY ELECTIONS.
INDEPENDENT OF HARBOUR BOARD. At the meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday it was stated that the impression had got about in connection with the forthcoming Harbour Board election that, in the event of there being no contest in a riding for the election of a riding membev on the County Council, no Harbour or Hospital Board election would take place in that riding. A "Northern Advocate" reporter referred the matter to the county returning officer and was informed that such au idea was impossible, as neither the Harbour Board nor Hospital Board elections had anything to do with the County Council elections, beyond that they were, held on the same day. Each was entirely independent of the other. In the one ease the election was of the riding concerned, and in the other of the wjole county.
