'Swqllen rivers burst their banks, flooding the countryside, destroying drops,! The inhabitants, were surprised by the fury of the storm and many were killed and injured by. flying debris. Cantarazaro reports worse damage. The crops were totally destroyed. The sea wall was smashed at Naples and ships broke their moorings, resulting in many collisions. The liner President Garfield was unable to enter the harbour. There were numerous fires in the city and the whole district is in distress owing to destruction of the electric power cables. The. number of full casualties and the extent of the damage are not yet known. The sea invaded the land in the province of Calabria for hundreds of yards and destroyed many villages and olive and orange plantations.^ The town of Bonano was wiped out. Torrential rains flooded thousands of acres. Several persons were drowned. —Sun.

VIOLENT CYCLONE

FEZ VISITATION,

Advices from Casablanca state that a violent cyclone in Fez demolished five aeroplanes in the local aerodrome, also a large hangar housing big bombing planes, 10 of which were damaged.

In the Foreign Legion camp five huts were smashed. Three men were killed and 20 injured. The damage is estimated at 1,000,000 francs.-—Reu-ter.
