DAIRY COMPETITION
MILK AND FAT PRODUCTION.
Seven teams of three cows competed i in'the dairy competition conducted in | conjunction with the Whangarei A. 1 -and P. Society's Spring Show. Super- ; visors appointed by the Soeiety paid surprise visits to the competitors' farms and took weights and samples from four successive milkings. The bottles were sealed and the testing was done under the supervision of •Government dairy inspectors, numbers only appearing on the bottles. No j entries were accepted from exhibitors « with herds of less than 10 cows. The j •winner for the second successive year i of the Whangarei Co-operative Dairy | Company's Cup for the competition J was Mr John Taylor, of Kamo, while bis Darkie was champion butterfat j cow. A Featherston correspondent of the t'Wairarapa Age" gives as one explanation of the scarcity of wild duck on the lake the depredation of eels. The stomach of a fairly large eel ■which was recently killed contained H young ducks.
