TRADE DISPLAYS AT THE SHOW

FARM IMPLEMENTS

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER DISPLAY.

The International Harvester Company, manufacturers of various farm implements ,and tractors have an interesting display at the Spring Show. The McCormick-Deering tractor which is an' important feature of the exhibit is a useful possession on the farm. Many factors make it a reliable machine able to stand up to the hardest work. It is fitted with cylinder liners so that in the event of the cylinders becoming scored or worn the liners may be replaced at a small cost, the great disadvantage of the old type being that cylinders had to be re-bored. The machine is fitted with overhead valves giving increased power while a genuine Robert Bosch magneto is another feature. The whole of the machine is erected on a solid cast-steel base which prevents the bearings from being thrown out of alignment. The tractor is gear driven throughout, this drive being claimed to be superior to the worm drive. A recommendation to the farmer is the economy in use, the machine being capable of hauling a plough a trifle over eight acres a day. The crank-shaft is guaranteed for life against burning and breaking irrespective of the age of the machine. No such guarantee has been given before in connection with tractors of this nature. Yet another feature worthy of note is that air intakes of the engine are through a special air-washer which eliminates eveiy particle of dust. Over 100 of these machines have been sold in the Ashburton county during the last twelve months ,and in Canterbury 140 have sold since last July. : The industrial type of tractor also on view has been designed for the special requirements of county councils and other local bodies and road contractors. It is capable of a speed of from 10 to 12 miles an hour and is mounted on rubber tyres, five • inches at back with extension rims carrying another five inches of all-weather tread. Although these machines have only recently been brought to New Zealand one each have been sold to the Pahiatua County Council, the Masterton Borough Council and Messrs Berry and Freece, Kaikohe. The Waipara County Council has purchased three of them. Messrs Thomson Bagley and Co. are ' the Whaiigare'i agents for the com- j l>:tny. 63
