The Watersiders' Federation will be in a bad position. The seasonal depr ssion is worse this, year than usual, oVihg' -to the demoralised eppditioh of tjie wheat, market and, the absence o|i Wpbl' sales,, together with tie, paucity of, other exports. Wharf labourers thrown out of work owing to the interstate hold up have little chance of securing- other work. r TJhe position 'of other maritime unions is rendered, blacker by the opinion held, in shipping circles that no; attempt will be made by the interstate owners to secure volunteer crews to run ifcheir vessels during the strike.
' The Union Company's Koranui has been idled owing to the crew giving notice.
The Kanna and Kittawa, due shortly, will also be held up.
Two «oastal steamers, the Ulmarra and Maianbar, which were . laid up' earlier in the week, secured volunteer crews and mailed for the North Coast. A. and N.Z.
