ENGLISH CRICKET
PLAYERS v. GENTLEMEN., NINTH-WICKET SENSATION. (Received noon.) LONDON, July 10. The Players—Gentlemen cricket match provided plentiful interest for the spectators. The former in the first innings notched 403 for eight wickets and then declared. Hearne scored 103 Parsons 72 Kennedy 59 not out.and Sandham 50. A promising start was made by the Gentlemen with 113 for the first wicket. Tate then got amongst the sticks to the tune of five wickets for 37 runs, until Lionel Tennyson filled the breach with a finely played innings of 69. Later Haig and Allen became associated for the ninth wicket, augmenting the total by 123. Haig compiled 98 and Allen rattled up 93 not out. — Reuter.
