In the House, of Representatives the Federal Prime Minister, Mr Bruce, replying to a question regarding the warship Brisbane .in Chinese waters, said that in communication with the British Government the principle of exchange as it affected the Brisbane, was clearly defined. He reiterated that the exchange cruiser was under the command of the Admiral in charge of the station to which the cruiser was attached. The Admiral had auI thority to use the exchange cruiser'in I the same way as he would use the | ves.sels belonging to his own squad- | ron. That; authority extended to the j neces3ity for safeguarding the lives, and property of .British subjects.
