COAL CRISIS
WORLD-WIDE INFLUENCE INTERNATIONAL ACTION. FEDERATION DISCUSSION. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, July S. The executive of the International Miners' Federation, at the concluding session in London,. after discussion of the. -world-wide coal crisis decided to call a .further .meeting of .the committee in Paris on July 28 to decide the :form of joint international action' if a settlement were not reached of.tha disputes in various countries. . In the House of Commons, in reply to a question,. Mr . Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister, stated that he was. not considering the granting of a subsidy on the' coal export trade. Replying to a communication from the president of the Mining Association, Mr Herbert Smith, of the Miners' Federation, expressed the belief that no good purpose would be served by the respective sub-committees meeting to discuss- the mine owners' proposals prior to the annual conference of the Federation next week,- in as much as the Federation already had indicated that there was no room for negotiations.—Reuter.
GOVERNMENT INTERVENES.
MEETING ARRANGED. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, July 9. The Government has intervened in the mining dispute. Mr W. C. Bridgeman, accompanied by the Minister of Labour and the Secretary for Mines, saw the Central Committee of the Mining Association, who explained to him their wage proposals and the present position of the negotiations. Mr Bridgeman invited the Miners' Federation to a similar meeting. It is understood that Mr Cook, secretary of the Miners' Federation, will meet him tomorrow.—Reuter.
