RIFFIAN HORDE FRENCH SABRES AT WORK. DEATH-STREWN TRAIL. . (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, July 8. . The "Daily Chronicle's" Paris correspondent states that the Riffian offensive in the Taza sector, which lasted two days, has been shattered. Columns of the enemy • again and again stormed the French .positions £t Babtaza, b.ut were always met witlx deadly fire, until they , fled helter-skel-ter, the French throwing two' squad-rops-of Spahis against the disheartened, enemy. .For the firsf; in the campaign. the ,Spahis H'd, a chance. They rode full .tilt at . the flying, enemy sabring ..many. The Riffiians threw away their rifles to flee, but the Spahis overtook them. Those who did not fall to the French sabres were hurled into a ravine by the rush of charging squadrons. Hundreds of Riffian dead mark the line of flight. Road communications betjveen Taza and Fez have been restablished.—A.

The "Times" in a leader states: "General Naulin's Moroccan appointment is an indication to the world that the campaign against the Riffs is not a minor colonial expedition, but war on a considerable scale, ti took France 40 years to subdue Algeria. She is apparently ready to dovote as much time and energy as may, be necessary to pacify and protect the whole of that part of Morocco for which she is responsible."—Times.,
