SUBSTITUTE SHAH.
SELF-APPOINTED REGENT.

The *'Daily Express' " Paris correspondent states Persia is tired of a Shah Who prefers to live abroad, and as the priests have persuaded the Persians that a republic is wrong, Reza Khan proposes to crown one of the young princes and appoint himself Regent.
Twelve years ago Reza was only a commissioner at the Legation, but during the Great War he became an "officer, and General Ironside, after the war, appointed him organiser of the rabble of the Persian Army. Consequently Reza found himself in command of an army which is now 40,000 strong.—A. and N.Z.
