NO RESPONSE
VESSELS WITHOUT CREWS.
OWNERS STAND FIRM,
(Received noon.)
MELBOURNE, This Day,
When calls were made for wateriaiders to unload the cargo from the ;«teamer Monarp there was no response. All efforts by the Melbourne Steamship Company to secure labour were ■futile.
Any possibility of reaching a settlement of the present maritime dispute is discounted by the determination of the shipowners to see the trouble -through. It is not regarded as likely $hat volunteer labour will be sought to unload the Monaro at the present juncture.—A. and N.Z.
NEW ARTICLES.
WAGES GUARANTEE REFUSED,
(Received 12.5 p.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day.
The real reason for the holding up ■of the steamer Tyne was the refusal of the owners to insert i». the new articles a clause guaranteeing the wages Conditions of the old award. The vesr*e 1 is to be tied up indefinitely. On general lines the dispute is identical that which occurred on the Mon- . aro in Melbourne.
(The articles of many ships expire on .'June 30 and an extension of the -trouble is then expected. —A. and -N.z. ' •
