NAUTICAL INQUIRY.

EVIDENCE AS TO SOUNDINGS.

WANGANiUI, This Day. At the Cyrena wreck inquiry the second officer, Mr Adams, gave evidence regarding the soundings. At the time of the' mishap the lead showed 18 feet abreast the forward winch, which was maintained for 64 feet from the forecastle head. Beneath the bridge he found 17 feet. Further aft the depth was 16 feet, but at the break of the poop it was 18 feet. Witness again sounded at 2 o 'clock on the afternoon ofthe mishap and found 18 feet at- the forecastle head, but only 12 feet on the port side abreast the foremast.
