A Sydney cablegram states that the Rev. Harold Wheen lias been elected president of the Methodist Conference. Mr G. Marsh, railway stationmaster at Whangarei, has now received definite word of his transfer to Palmerston North, and will leave on Monday. Mr J. Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, was a guest at the Commercial Hotel, Whangarei, today, halting on his way through from Russell. Mr H. J. Lowe, Commisioner of Crown Lands for North Auckland, and Mr H. Purvis Smith, supervisor of returned sold\c-r settlements, stayed at the Settlers' Hotel last night, and left for the Hokianga district this morning. Messrs E. E. HornbloAv, F. A. Jones, J. H. McCarroll, A. C. Nicol and H. Clear, of Dargaville, were guests at the Settler's Hotel last night. Mr Hornblow went t'j Hikurangi today, while the others returned to their home town.
