VICTORIANS' TOUR. SECOND MATCH BEGUN. INVERCARGILL, This Day. ... The Victorians commenced the sec ond match of their New Zealand tour against Southland yesterday. Owing to wet weather there was no play in the morning, the wicket in the afternoon was in fine order, but enabling the bowlers to spin the ball.
Southland lost the toss and were sent in to bat. J. Lynch and Poole made most of the runs, and the Victorians' manager stated that Lynch's innings was as good a display of batting as they had so far seen in thtS Dominion. The innings closed for 162 (Lynch 47, Kilby 10, Poole 54, Dixon 21). Ebeling took two wickets for 55, Liddiput 5 for 17, Millar 1 for 11, Hartkopf 2 for 56. Victoria lost two wickets for 51 (Mayne not out 29). Goodsir took one wicket for 19 and Sheriffis 1 for 15. At a cricketers' gathering at night Mr Mayne, captain of the Victorian team,, said: "You have a batsman here whom • they should'pick in the New Zealand team, and you people should see that "his name goes forward to the selectors. Mr Lynch is the man. to . whom I refer. He played as Well, if not better than, any player in Duiedin the other day."—Press Assn.
