INEBEIATED COMBATANTS. MANSLAUGHTEE CHAEGE AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Supreme Court the jury returned a verdict of not guilty concerning Eobert Wiffen, 65 years of age, in a ease arising from the death of John Bailey, 50 years of age, as the result of an altercation outside an hotel on December 27, both men being the worse for liquor. When struck or pushed by Bailey Wiffen fell and sustained a fracture of the skull. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of common assault. Accused was sentenced to two years' reformative treatment and ordered to abstain from liquor.—Press Assn.
