MILITARY PACT
GUARANTEE AGAINST GERMANY. ADVERSE PUBLIC OPINION. EMPIRE TAKES PRECEDENCE. (Received 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, February 8. The "Daily Express" says: "Mr Chamberlain ought, in the plainest language, to be given to understand that British public opinion, irrespective of party, will not agree to a pact militarily guaranteeing France and Belgium against Germany. It is certain that the Empire as a whole will never accept such a commitment. If Britain is forced to choose between defending the French frontier and'preserving the Empire she will unhesitatingly choose the latter." —-Router.
