GAOL-BREAKER.
ARMED WITH RIFLE. NOTORIOUS BANK CLERK. TE AWAMUTU, This Day. The bank clerk Harold Keith Jones, who gained notoriety by alleging that he had forged and uttered cheques for his honeymoon and who was sentenced to two years, after serving six weeks at the Waikeria Reformatory escaped at 9.30 o'clock on Sunday morning. He was missed shortly afterwards and a search was immediately begun and continued all night, but so far without
result. It is not known in which direction the escapee went, but it is believed that he is heading towards Arapuni. He carries a Snider rifle and several rounds of ammunition which he stole. At the time of his escape he was dressed in dungarees, but is now supposed to be wearing a dark suit or a dark coat over his dungarees. The escapee is 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches liigh, of thin build and dark complexion, with black hair and of smart appearance. The fact of his carrying arms is causing some uneasiness.-—Press Assn.
