MANY MILLIONS.
HUGE WATER SCHEME. SUPPLY FOR MANCHESTER. (Received 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, February 8. The Manchester, Corporation decided to expend ten millions sterling immediately on a water scheme, including the lengthening of Thirlmere Lake from 2i to 4£ miles and widening it from a quarter to half a. mile. This would entail submerging a village and a parish church The scheme would also necessitate building 7-i's miles of aqueduct, of which 28 miles would be underground. The scheme would ultimately cost twenty millions.—A. and N.Z.
