ANGLICAN SYNOD.
ARCHBISHOP'S RETIREMENT. POLYNESIAN RESPONSIBILITIES, DUNEDIN, This Day. At the Anglican General Synod last evening, on the motion of Bishop Spratt, it was agreed that "if the Archbishop and Primate shall have resigned his scat, he shall continue to hold the office of Archbishop and Primate until liis seat shall be become vacant, this provision being subject to* resolution of Synod." Archbishop Julius moved a statute to provide for the association of the missionary dioceses in Polynesia with' the Church of the Province of New Zealand. Archdeacon McMurray opposed the association on the grounds that the Church in New Zealand was not willing or able to support the responsibilities involved, and that it would lead to over-representation of the missionary dioceses in the Synod. Archbishop Julius, in an eloquent and moving reply, contended that the Church was well able to shoulder the task and swept aside the opposition, the Bill being adopted, without dissent.—Press Assn.
