A number of cases of people passing across split b.v'l: notes have been recorded lately In various towns throughout New Zealand, and Gisborne is now the scene of operation (states the local "Herald"' 1 . A reporter was shown three of the split notes with which shopkeepers have been victimised. The work has been carried ou'. very neatly, evidently having been done by an expert. Judging from the appearance of flic notes, the work entailed must be very difficult, but is no sign of any of the local notes being cut and unless shopkeepers looked at both sides they could very easily be victimised. A man was arrested in connection wit-h the splitting of several notes in Gisborne, and on appearance before, the Magistrate was remanded.
