SATURDAY SECTION. WON BY MATA. The final games of the Saturday section of the Whangarei Hockey Association's competition were played on Saturday afternoon. Iluia met Maungakaramea at Weaver's Paddock and Mata played Mangapai at Mangapai. HUIA (4), MAUNGAKAHAMEA (1). TJie game between Huia and Maungaakaramea was fairly evenly contested. MaungakaraiiK'n were without the services of Hamilton, Eayner and Sevnian, the latter having left the district and the two former bemg school teachers being away on holiday. Huia had a much stronger team than during the earlier part of the season and they Avon by four goals to one. MATA (4), MANGAPAI (3). This was one of the most evenly contested games played this season, both sides putting out their best elevens. Mangapai had a lead of one championship point; thus Mata had to win to be in the final against Defence (winners of the Thursday division). Neither team had much advantage of play during the game, chances being missed by both sides. Mangapai's back division was perhaps not quite so sure as previously, but they had a bustling set of forwards opposing them. Their forwards also were not up to their ueual combined standard of play, being inclined to bunch. They were also unlucky, several good shots not finding the net.
