PAPAROA-MATAKOHE FUNCTION.
One of the best, brightest and most enjoyable evenings held in Paparoa and Matakohe dancing circles was that of the bachelors' ball, held on Tuesday, August 12, when the efforts of the bachelors of Paparoa and Matakohe "were crowned with success and 97 couples graced the spacious floor of the Garrison Hall and skipped the fantastic to the strains of Mr W. J. Conaghan's orchestra. The chairman, Mr J. G. Jordan, and Iris willing- band of workers are to be congratulated on the achievement of their scheme of decorations which must have entailed a considerable amount of forethought and arduous labour. The result, howover, as voiced by the numerous critics, fully compensated them for their trouble. The scheme, in blue and gold and representative of a hugo boll coTitaiiiing some 18,000 feet of -
coloured paper streainers, relieved and interspersed with coloured balloon--:, had a very pleasing effect. The h;iii was illuminated by electricity, under the supervision of Mr J. Griffin. Many flattering remarks were passed relative to the floor, which, was in perfect order, and here again was reflected great credit on those responsible for
its preparation. The music, four in-
I strunients, supplied by Mr W. J. (Conaghaii 's orchestra, of WhangaTei, . was ail that could be desired an i I worthy of special mention. When the
Grand March was struck up the numerous beautiful dresses worn by the ladies, together with the hall decorations, presented an animated picture. The duties of Masters of Ceremony woro in the capable hands of Messrs Wright, Sterling, Bonncr and Wilson, who spared no effort to see that each and all received enjoyment to the full.
Mrs Parsons, whose name as caterer is sufficient guarantee of satisfaction attended to the supper arrangements. Dancing was kept up vigorously until the small hours of the morning, when the guests gave vent to feelings of
pleasure at being present to participate in such an enjoyable function.
