WEDDING GIFTS.
HIGH SCHOOL GATHERING.
A very happy little gathering took place at the Whangarei High School yesterday afternoon, in the drawingroom of the Boys' Hostel, where the teachers and clerical staff assembled to make presentations to Mr D. A. Bird, 8.A., on the eve of his marriage. Mr Charters, Principal of the High School, presided, and in a felicitous speech referred to the excellent qualities of Mr Bird, and the happy relations that always existed amongst members of his staff. Mr Charters congratulated the guest on joining the great araiy of benedicts. He assured him that in looking forward to the future there would be nothing to Tegret, and wished both his intended wife and liimself every happiness during their married life. He then handed to Mr Bird a handsome three-deck cake dish as a token of the staff's esteem and good wishes. Mr J. McKinnon, in presenting to Mr Bird a beautiful bread board and knife, also made suitable reference to him. and the cordial relations that always existed between the staff and the office. He congratulated Mr Bird and wished his bride and himself a happy and prosperous wedded life. The Hostel boys also remembered Mr Bird during the time in which he was associated with the Hostel as one of the house masters. They asked Mr Bird to accept a silver hot water jug, suitably inscribed. Mr Bird on rising to return thanks was received with applause, and in a humorous speech thanked the speakers for their kindly reference to his future wife and himself and for the handsome gifts bestowed on. him.
