The football match for possession of j the Hard-np Shield between teams representing railways and retailers was played at Kensington Parl: yesterday j afternoon and resulted in a win for the j railwaymen by 22 points to nine. The retailers held sway during the first j quarter, putting up six points. At halftime the score sheet read six all. The j final half of the game was all in favour ] of the railwaymen, the forward divis- j ion of the team romping over their op- i ponentP. For the winners tries were obtained by Bowden (2), Grey (2) ana Mangan, whilst Gfey converted two and kicked a penalty goal. Preston and .Johnson secured tries for the losers and White kicked "a penalty goal. The proceeds of the match, amounting to £5 Bs, will be devoted to the fund being raised for the widow and children of the late Les. Beehre. After the .match the teams dined at the Whangarei Hotel and a pleasant hour was spent.
