SLIDING PANELS.

BALLOT SCANDALS. OFFICIALS CASHIERED. (Received 9.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A meeting of the executive of the Australian Railways Union considered the case of Buckley. The executive decided that Buckley had failed to clear himself at the Australian Labour Party State Conference of irregular practices in connection with free selection ballots and the making of ballot boxes with sliding panels, therefore that he be deemed as not a fit and proper person to hold office as State secretary of the Railway Union. Regarding D. Maguire, State president of the Union, against whom certain charges had been made, the general president stated that there was evidence of antipathy towards him in certain quarters, the charges apparently arising primarily out of his association with Buckley. Realising his position, and in the interests of the Union's progress, Maguire had tendered his resignation as State president and as a member of the Australian executive. The resignation was accepted. —A. and N.Z.
