Witness bit through the ropes | and escaped. When Sheldon came to* tlio hut, later witness rushed him and struck him with an axe, but hit too hard. Further evidence showed that Sheldon was verv hard to get on with. On a previous occasion it was alleged that lie injured Lang. —A. and N.Z.
