FOOTBALL PARLANCE.
IX FINANCIAL DEBATE.. TIIF. OFFSIDK WING-FORWARD. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") WELLINGTON, This Day. To such a high phi no has the finaur cial debate developed that some members of the House have to resort to football terminology to say what they think of one another. The other afternoon Mr R. Masters (Stratford) described the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. D. Stewart, as a .very fine five-eighth, such an adept, was'he at side-stepping. Last night Mr F. F. Hocldy (Rotorua) was in a descriptive Rugby mood He agreed that the Minister had proved himself a good five-eighth because he had shown that he possessed a qvick brain and was an accurate l.iiiikei, assets which were very valuable to | five-eighth. "But," said Mr Hockly, "there is another position I have nev.er approved of and L do not like. I refer to the position of wing-forward. T'le wing-for ward invariably spoils the game. His tactics are very often unfair. Manytimes he deliberately sets out to evade the laws and rules. Occasionally lie may escape the eye of the referee. He is constantly offside, with the consequent penalty against his side. I venture to say that there is no man in fhi-i i House who is more of a wing-forvvaru than the Member for Stratford, who is so often offside and who so often indulges in unfair taeti'-s. J believe that he is the wing-forward par excellence of this House. (Laughter).
