HOUSEHOLD HINTS.

TO CLEAN POTS. To clean an aluminium saucepan that has been badly burnt pour in a little water and boil an onion in it. The burnt matter will rise to the top and leave the saucepan quite clean. A good way to remove the taste and smell from utensils that have been used for cooking onions or other strong flavoured foods is to scrub them thoroughly with dry mustard. TO IMPROVE TARNISHED GILT FRAMES. (Hit picture or mirror frames that are badly tarnished may be perfectly rsstored in this way: First of all remove the dust with a brush. Place a bottle containing a little spirits of wine in a cup of hot water and then use the warm spirit to rub the frame, employing an old silk handkerchief, or some very soft material. The beneficial effect will be at once apparent. Even frames that have become almost black can be improved by this treatment. After the epirit has dried, rub on the frame a mixture of one part linseed oil and two parts of; turpentine well shaken up in a bottle. Thie final application will prevent the frame from tarnishing for a long while. TO CLEAN VALUABLE LACE. Here is a Frenchwoman's recipe for washing valuable lace: Dissolve some pure white soap in a pint of boiling water and add two tablespoonfuls of borax. When this solution is lukewarm, put in the lace, leave it to soak for several hours, press it until clean, i then rinse it in clear warm water.

In the last rinsing water put a few pinches g£ borax to give crispness to the lace, which must be laid flat on a table between clean linen towels. Do not iron it; but put a heavy weight on top to press it perfectly smooth.
