WEALTH Or NATIONS.
LATEST COMPUTATION. The research department of the Bankers' Trust Company of New York has been busy for some time on a eomtratation of the wealth of nations today and prior to the war. The conclusions arrived at from this inquiry are that the total wealth of the former belligerents has not materially changed as a result of the war, but that there has been a marked redistribution of such wealth not only as between nations, but also as between the peoples within the boundaries of each notion. The aggregate pre-war wealth of the 23 nations actively engaged in the Great War, according to the investigators, amounted to 630,000,000;000 dollars. The wealth of the same nations to-day is estimated at about. 619,000,000,000 dollars. The pre-war wealth of the British Empire, that is, of Great Britain, the Dominions, India, and the Crown Colonies was approximately 140,000,000,000 dollars, while to-day the wealth of this group of nations is estimated at about 149,000,000,000 dollars. The wealth of France before the war is placed at just under 60,000,000,000 dollars, and is estimated to be approximately the same now. The pre-war wealth of the United States is placed at 200,000,000,000 dollars, and the wealth to-day at 230,000,000,000 dollars, while the pre-war wealth of Germany is estimated to have been upwards of 80,000,000,000 dollars, and today to be about 55,000,000,000 dollars. Tkese figures are all on the gold prewar basis of values, having been adjusted for inflation.
