The "Daily- Maal" states that the death of Messrs Mallory and Irvine on Mount Everest was foretold by the Abbot of Rongbuifc, a deformed High Lama credited with the possession ,y£ second sight. He warned the porters that a further assault on Everest would be attended by disaster, beeauae though the Spirit of the Mountain had been merciful' up' to that time lie would wreak vengeance on future disturbers of his eternal peace. It is significant tha-t after this; warning the porters were disinclined to make the long ascent, suggesting that their morale was affected.—Sun..
