GROANING VICTIMS
PINNED UNDER WRECKAGE.
MOSTLY WOMEN AND GIRLS,
THE EDINBURGH COLLISION.
(Received 9.30 a.m.)
LONDON, July 29
[ The victims of the -Edinburgh smash were mostly women and girls, members of a Polytechnic holiday party from London, Oxford and Manchester, residing temporarily in the hostel at Edinburgh. They had been on an excursion to St. Andrews and had just transferred into a stationary suburban train. Seventy-five minutes elapsed before the last of those injured could be extricated from the telescoped carriage?. Every movement of the structure with crowbars evoked groans from those pinned under. Doctors succoured the imprisoned persons with brandy while the rescuers were smashing the woodwork.—A. and N.Z.
