FARMERS' UNION. The monthly meeting of the Kauri branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the public hall on Tuesday, February 19, when Mr J. Peat presided over a small attendance. The correspondence was a formidable pile, including the minutes of the last Dominion executive meeting, which were well discussed; letters from the Whangarei County Council and the Hikurangi Town Board concerning unregistered dogs; the doings of the provincial and sub-provincial executives, and an interesting circular letter, containing suggestions for raising union funds by Mr F. S. Bowen, of Poverty Bay, which was approved. Other matters discussed and deferred for a better attended meeting were Mr Brake's scheme for raising union funds, the abolition of the Whangarei sub-provincial district, and the possibility of the formation of a gorse and noxious weeds board to control infested areas in the district. The treasurer tabled a statement of accounts to date, showing a healthy state, but he wanted the branch's share of levy returned by the subprovincial treasurer. The branch delegate, Mr Peat, undertook to look into the matter.
