BATSON TRIAL.
YOUNG WOMEN'S ORDEAL. THREE HOURS' HOLD-UP. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Claude Batson pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial on April 23, on the charges of shooting Police-Sergeants O'Connor and Morris. Harriet Bryant gave evidence that when she was returning home with hexsister on the night of February 10 Batson stopped them at the gate of their house. He'said: "I am a bushranger; I have done three in and there is still another one to go." After keeping theni at the gate for three hours they persuaded hhn to go to the house, where he stayed all # nigth. In the morning Sergeants O'Connor and Morris appeared, and while Batson was escaping shots were exchanged.—A. and N.Z.
