Included in the list of candidates -who have passed the State examination of midwives are Nurses Edith A. "Walker and Jeanetta Watt of Whangarei. Mr Bryan Palmer, of Auckland, who was for some time in Whangarei, has gone to Dargaville to take chuge of "the drapery departments of the Wniroa Stores, Ltd. Mr Coy Reardon, well-known to Whangarei footballers as a Northern delegate on the North Auckland Rugby Union, has been transferTed from Dargaville to Whakatane as agent for the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. Many old friends in Whangarei of Mr S. Rawnsley, senr., will regret to hear that he is at present an inmate of a private hospital in the city, where he has undergone a .serious •operation to his left leg. It is hoped, however, that the limb Avill be saved. -As Mr Rawnsley has reached the advanced age of 72 years, the matter •causes his friends considerable anxiety.

Mrs A. Purdie, who recently was compelled to enter hospital in Auckland owing to a serious nervous breakdown, has made a splendid recovery. She is still very weak, but is rapidly regaining strength, and before long should be quite restored to her normal health. At present she is spending a holiday with Mrs Sandford (her sister) in Heme Bay. It is unlikely, however, that she will resume the strain of business for some little time.
