CHURCH BAZAARS.
ILLEGALITY OF RAFFLES.
THAMES, This' Day. The Secretary of the Roman Catholic bazaar appeared before the Magistrate this, morning charged with committing a breach of the Gaming Act. It appears that at a recent bazaar there were offered several raffles for which permission hi d been given by the Department.
J The authorities of the bazaar gave ' with each article taffled a gift of I greater value. Defendant pleaded { guilty and the Magistrate ordered payment of costs, but did not record a conviction, as the case was broiight on to show that churches ..must be careful with raffles.—Press Assn.
