Lecturing on evolution, Professor David said that the 500,000,000 years which had elapsed since the Cambrian Period represented only -about onetenth of the time that life had existed on the earth. On the evolution hypothesis the beginning of life here Avent back to something like five billion years.—A. and N.Z.
