BURNED DOWN.
NEWMARKET SCHOOL. . ORIGIN UNKNOWN, AUCKLAND, This Day. Th« Newmarket public school, accommodating 250 pupils, was destroyed by fire last night. 'Smoke was seen issuing from the building at 8.30. The brigade was 'summoned, but in a. few minutes the whole building was ablaze, the -efforts .to overcome the fire failing. A few firemen were overcome by smoke and had to be. assisted from the building. The school papers and a few desks were sav^.The origin of the fire is a complete •mystery.. No fire had been lighted irf the school for several weeks. It is stated that fumes of benzine or kerosene were detected during the outbreak. The school will be in, & marquee until building is crected.— Assn. ' .
