COUNTRY RACING CLUBS
MEETINGS AWAY -FROM HOME
CRITICISM RESENTED,
DARGAVILLE, This Day.
At last night's meeting of the Dar-' gaville Racing Club Mr F. .T. Dargaville, chairman of the Auckland Provincial One-day - Clubs, which recently ran a successful pooling scheme and raced on ! mctropolitan courses, took strong exception to the remark made by Mr O. Bidwell in connection with country clubs racing on metropolitan courses. He especially resented the rejnark that "members of these clubs must be poor sports when they have to race on metropolitan courses to keep their clubs going." ,v
Mr Dargaville pointed out that the scheme had been approved by the bigclubs in the district, the Minister of Internal Affairs anil the Racing Conference, and had been the means of keeping # several pf the clubs from closing down. Mr Bidwoll was mistaken when he said that the members of the country clubs mentioned had not. assisted. personally, as ho knew that in nearly all the clubs the members hd.l assisted financially. , The Dargaville Club in particular had many of members, who had stood behind -'t financially when they were "up against it."—Press A.ssn.
