CHESTER CONCESSION

AMERICAN DISSOCIATION. EXPLICIT DENIAL. (Received 10.35 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 19. The State Department answering the National Popular Government League's question concerning the Chester concesison in Asia Minor, denies that the concessionaries had been given moral and political assurances that in the event of cispute the United States Government would be bound to defend the validitv of the concessions.

The reply asserts that the United iStates Government took no part in the negotiations and concerns itself only with maintenance of the open door.

The League's membership includes eminent educators, lawyers, Labour leaders and publicists, all of whom regard this denial as the most sweeping and explicit which the State Department has yet been made.—A. and N.Z.
