Repairs to the Matakohe whiff the Maungaturoto Hotel bridge and t -
Golden Stairs road in Maunga+uruo riding were reported in hand.
A schedule of applications for Government grants, totalling £13,800, fo> the current year, was considered iid adopted. The Council proposes to >r> vide £10,800, which will make a toWl amount of £24/500 available. (Tiiis ,is apart from general maintenance work out of rates). Providing the Government assistance asked for is forthcoming the total sum will be allocated as follows among the ridings.— Paparoa £1050, Maroretu £4v);>), Maungatuorto £21 SO, Whakapirm £.">7BO. r "" 1 -p To l --.,. £22(50, £2780, Ruawai £33(50 and Kaiwalca £4240.
In response to :i request from the Public Works Department, the Council promised tlie assistance of its engineers to co-ope rate with the Department's engineers in awaking an inspection of the road routes from Toka Toka to the Paparoa r.ailway station, with the ob ject of estimating the cost of an up-to-date metalled road connecting Wairoa with the North Auckland railway. Consideration of the bridging scheme was deferred till next meeting. Regarding Komiti fruit lands, the precedent consent of the Govern "ir-in-Council has been obtained to the raising of this loan
It was resolved to grant the wharf-, inger at Mangawai half-pay for the term of his sick leave. A temporary appointment has been made meanwhile. The Hospital Board levy on the county was reported at £(139 9s. Ruawni settlers complained at the serious damage to the new metal on Robertson's Road by timber hauling. The Council resolved to notify the parties responsible that they will ' e held liable for tire repairs. The annual allocations of general Tate moneys for the various ridings we re made. The chairman brought up the question of afforestation, and strongly recommended the Council to give the project its careful consideration. The Raupo branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union wrote asking for the erection of waiting rooms and conveniences at the Raupo and Ruawai wharves. It was resolved to reply that while the Council realised the need, all rate moneys were already allocated for general road maintenance. It was resolved to advertise one of the Council's 4-vard White Motor trucks for sale. A sub-committee was set up
to fix a pricc. Concerning the Swamp Road, Mnreretu, Mr T. Xutsford wrote complaining of neglect of this road and ask l tig the Council to arrange repairs. In view of the railway works having been largelv responsible for the damage, it was resolved to approach the Public Works' Department and request it 10 undertake the work. It having transpired after the Council had negotiated with the owners on the deviation of the road from Paparoa township to the railway station that the road had* been legalised in 391-1. and was practically in the Government's hands, the clerk reported having interviewd the Public Works District engineer, who had asked that j the Council put the whole position before the Department in writing.
