MAUNGAKARAMEA NEWS.
CATTLE SALE. The usual monthly cattle sale took place on Tuesday last, when prices showed a much healthier tendency, especially for springers anywhere close to profit. HOCKEY SOCIAL. With i view to raising funds towards the -expenses of the representative players a social was held in the 'local hall on Tuesday night last. There was a fair attendance, and the music was rendered by the Arcadia Orchestra. During the evening items were rendered by Miss Allen (dancel and Mr G. Kelk (piccolo solo). DAIRYING NOTES. The continued mild weather has had a very beneficial effect on the pastures, the growth of grass being quite marked for the time of year. There is a considerable area of new grass in the district this winter, which will be the means of giving the early cows a good start. PERSONAL. Councillor P. McKenna left for Auckland on Tuesday to attend the Farmers' Union Conference, as delegate from the local brajieh. | Mr J. Barrett has returned to his home at Hamilton. Messrs Hitchens Bros, have now left the ' district, having dismantled and removed their sawmill. Mr Russek, an old Maungakaramea settler, attended the sale on Tuesday. Mr P. Attwood's new residence is well 011 its way to completion. Mr and Mrs W. Courtney and family have returned to the district.
