Calves. —A snifill yarding again met Hth a very brisk sale, prices beinghigher. Alfred Buckland ajid Sons, Ltd., report:— On Wednesday at our Westfield weekly fat stock market we yarded 072 head, comprising 565 steers, 103 cows and heifers, and 4 bulls. There was a keen demand throughout. Cow beef was firmer and in many cases of ox there was also an improvement in price. Extra choice ox sold to £1 5/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, £1 3/ to £1 4/6; ordinary and plain ox, 19/ to £1 2/(5; prime young cow "and heifer beef, 19/ to 3/; ordinary cow beef, 16/6 to 18/6; rough beef, 7/ to 14/; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £11 10/ to £12 10/; heavy prime steers, £9 10/ to £11 7/6; lighter prime steers, £7 15/ to £9 7/6; light prime steers, £5 .15/ to £7 12/6; unfinished and small, £3 10/ to £5 10/; extra heavy prime young cow's and heifers, £6 15/ to £7 .15/; heavy prime young cows and heifers, £5 15/ to £6 12/6; £4 10/ to £5 12/6; other cows, £1 10/ to £4 5/; bulls, £2 10/ to £4 15/.
There was <i moderate entry of sheep, which met with a keen sale, values being very firm at last week's rates. Extra heavy prime wethtfrs, £1 17/ to £1 18/3; heavy prime Wethers, £1 .15/(5 to £1 16/9; medium to heavy prime wethers, £1 13/6 to £1 15/; light and unfinished, £1 9/ to £1 13/; extra heavy prime young ewes, £1 13/ to £1 15/; heavy prime, ewes, £1 10/ to £l 12/9; lighter fat ewes, £1 7/6 to £1 9/9 (1413 sold). A fair, supply of fat lambs were not in strong request, but sold at about ruling values. Heavy prime, £1 5/6' to £1 7/6; lighter, £1 3/ to £1 5/; light and unfinished, £1 to £1 2/9 (227 sold).
Fat and young cnlves ./were again penned in small numbers, with the result that last week's improved values were fully sustained. Runners made to £4 12/; heavy vealcrs brought from £2 IS/ to £."■ 17/; medium . vealcrs, £2 to £2 .10/; light vealcrs, £1 14/ to £1 18/; small and fresh-dropped, 5/ to £1 3/ (I<>2 sold).
Pigs Avpre .penned in less than average numbers. Competition was good :■ r.d values for all classes showed an improvement on late quotations. Fat Sheep.—An exceptionally large yarding. Values varied very little from last week except that freezing ewes were a shade firmer and better sorts rather weaker towards the end of the sale. Extra prime wethers, 38/ to 40/; a few special, 47/; prime, 34/ to 37/6; medium, 30/ to 33/6; light, j 25/6 to 29/; extra prime ewes, 33/4; prime, 27/ to 31/; medium, 22/6* to 26/6; light, 19/ to 22/; aged and inferior, 15/6 to 18/6. Fat Cattle.—A smaller yarding and an improvement in price by 3/ to 5/ per 1001b.
